The Commission on the Accreditation of
Programs in Applied and Clinical Sociology

International Programs Welcome

Academic programs outside of the United States – at either the undergraduate or graduate levels – are encouraged to consider applying for accreditation. It is recommended, but not required, that a university Program outside of the United States that is interested in applying for accreditation should send a letter of interest to the Chair of the Commission, Dr. Michael Fleischer (refer to address on website). In that letter, the potential applicant should briefly describe the Program and include any initial questions. The Program may request and/or the Commission may recommend that a preliminary visit should be made to an institution in order to advise the Program about a possible accreditation application. The preliminary visit also would be an opportunity to discuss the schedule (for submissions and the site visit) as well as any concerns.

The Commission recognizes that degree titles and other Program specifics as well as university requirements may not meet all the standards developed for U.S. programs. The Commission may adapt accreditation procedures and modify certain standards to fit the circumstances. The Commission recognizes that it may require a different fee structure than used in the U.S. and may develop new rules to deal with matters such as language issues including translation. The Commission reserves the right to decide that it is not able to accredit certain kinds of programs and that it is not able to conduct an accreditation visit in certain regions or countries.
