The CAPACS Board of Directors Welcomes the Return of Stan Capela to the Commission

The Commission on the Accreditation of Programs in Applied and Clinical Sociology (CAPACS) welcomes the return of Stan Capela.  Stan was a charter member of the Commission on Applied and Clinical Sociology (CACS), as CAPACS was originally known.  He is an accomplished accreditor, having conducted over 100 site visits in 34 states, the District of Columbia, and Canada at for- profit and non-profit agencies, including 13 state and county agencies, and military site visits in the U.S., Guam, Japan, and Germany.  Stan’s forty-year career as a professional accreditor has yielded him numerous awards and distinctions from the Council on Accreditation (COA), the State of New York, and the American Evaluation Association (AEA), where he has served on the AEA Board, and chaired the Government Topical Interest Group (TIG), and co-chaired the Internal Evaluation TIG, among his other AEA offices and appointments.  Stan is a Certified COA Peer Reviewer, Certified COA Military Reviewer, Certified Hague Evaluator, and an AEFC Certified Facilitator, TDM Model, amongst other certifications.

In 2001, Stan served as President of the Society for Applied Sociology (SAS), prior to SAS’s merger with the Sociological Practice Association (SPA) in 2006, to form the Association for Applied and Clinical Sociology (AACS).  Currently, Stan is Vice President for Quality Management at HeartShare Human Services in Brooklyn, NY, where he has worked for three decades.  Stan has many publications, and recently co-authored an article and chapter on COA Accreditation with COA Standards Developer, Joseph M. Frisino, in New Directions for Evaluation(New York, Wiley, 2017).  Stan’s academic background as a sociologist, and his professional career as a practicing sociologist, professional accreditor, association leader, and executive in human services, complement and broaden the domestic and international outreach of the Commission.
